Storm damage - Central Desert

Northern Territory Emergency Service along with NT Police responded to a large storm cell over Willowra community overnight.

Around 5:30pm, the Joint Emergency Service Communication Centre received reports of severe weather resulting in trees and power lines being brought down along with structural damage to houses.

The storm lasted around 15 minutes and resulted in about 2.5cm of rain. One injury was reported with a female suffering bruising after a beam gave way within a residence.

NTES Manager of Southern Command Ian Carlton said "Power was isolated to a number of residences due to power line damage and an inundation of water.

"Additional resourcing from police and the Alice Springs emergency service volunteers have also been deployed to the community to assist with the response.

"Severe weather in the NT can intensify and shift direction quickly, events like this are a good reminder to Territorians to check their emergency plan and cyclone kits."
