Strong exports data confirm Tasmania has what world wants

Guy Barnett,Minister for Trade

Confirmation that Tasmanian exports are at record high levels demonstrates that the Tasmanian Liberal Government's plan to secure Tasmania's future is working.

The latest ABS export data has revealed that Tasmanian exports have hit a record $3.84 billion in the year to June 2021, exceeding the previous 12-month record.

At the same time, exports grew 5.2 per cent in the year to June 2021 compared to the previous year, which is higher than the national growth of 3.5 per cent - once again, confirming that Tasmania's plan is working through broader global challenges, including COVID-19.

Importantly for jobs and industry in the State, the mining and minerals processing sector has again proven its importance to the Tasmanian economy, accounting for the value of more than 60 per cent of our exports and providing approximately 5 000 jobs across the State, many in regional areas.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to grow and expand access to world markets for Tasmanian products through our strong ongoing relations with our partner countries, as well as through our successful trade strategy to diversify trade relations.

As part of the Tasmanian Government's Trade Strategy and 20201 Annual Action plan, the Government is supporting Tasmanian businesses looking to grow their export sales, or begin exporting for the first time, a new Trade with Tasmania directory has been created.

The Trade with Tasmania directory will mean that Tasmanian exporters can increase their profile and generate sales with interstate and overseas buyers.

Capitalising on Tasmania's reputation for quality, the new directory allows Tasmanian businesses to showcase their products, with easy-to-find links directing customers to their own websites and social media channels.

Any business already exporting, or considering export as an option for their business, is encouraged to apply for a free listing at trade.tasmanian.com.au/directory

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue delivering an economy that supports and encourages Tasmanian businesses to produce world-class products and seek out export opportunities and we look forward to helping Tasmanian businesses make new connections and sales as they sign-up to the Trade with Tasmania directory.
