Strong progress on Trade Action Plan

Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for Trade

The Tasmanian Government is strongly committed to growing our exports and opening new markets for our local businesses to create more jobs.

In the year to August 2019, Tasmania exported $3.71 billion of goods, which is an increase of 34.1 per cent compared to the year to March 2014, when we first came to Government.

Under the Trade Strategy developed by my Government in close consultation with Tasmanian exporters, we have delivered on a number of key actions, including appointing a new Trade Start Adviser based in Launceston and coordinating Tasmanian attendance at domestic and international trade events, such as Fine Food Australia and Pacific 2019.

We have also supported inbound delegations from Indonesia, Japan and Korea, launched the Accelerating Trade Grants Program, and promoted business excellence through the 2019 Export Awards.

Of the 80 activities identified in the Strategy Action Plan, in just three months, 47 have either been completed or are in the process of implementation, with the remaining 33 on track to be completed over the next nine months.

We are supporting great businesses, like Hill Farm Preserves, who recently won the 2019 Women in Export Award.

Hill Farm Preserves has received support through various Government initiatives, including participation in the 2017 South East Asia trade mission and attending Food and Hotels Asia in 2018 as part of the Tasmanian trade stand.

Hill Farm Preserves is a great example of Tasmania's trade growth success enjoying a 50 per cent increase in export growth in 2018-19.

My Government will continue to proudly champion our businesses on the international stage through our Trade Strategy to maintain the growth in our economy and support more local jobs.
