The Tasmanian Government's priority is to protect the safety of our most vulnerable, including children involved in sporting organisations that rely on volunteers.
The Registration to Work With Vulnerable People (RWVP) system has recently been strengthened by making it mandatory for all organisations engaging employees and volunteers in a regulated activity to add their details to a card holder's RWVP within 10 working days of the change.
It has always been mandatory under the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 for a RWVP card holder to notify the Registrar of all child-related organisations that they are working or volunteering with, within 10 days of any change occurring.
The new Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Amendment Act 2019 strengthens this requirement by ensuring both the card holder and engaging organisation are notifying the Registrar of any changes.
Failure to comply with these requirements of the Act can result in penalties.
I can assure Tasmanians that if the Registrar suspends or cancels a RWVP, all named employers and volunteer organisations will be notified. This also applies to any public servant involved in a regulated activity who has been stood down.
This process does in fact extend to any volunteer roles within that organisation and any claims that it doesn't are completely incorrect.
The Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) website contains an Employer Portal where organisations can be registered, and employees and volunteers can be managed.
The portal allows employers, including volunteer organisations, to search and add employees and volunteers, review employee and volunteer registration status, and update the organisation's details.
The changes to strengthen the Act came into effect on 1 February 2021.
