NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) members attended a structure fire at a primary school in Bradshaw, Alice Springs at around 5:45pm on Thursday.
Staff at the location identified smoke coming from an air conditioning unit and contacted emergency services.
All occupants safely evacuated prior to emergency service arrival.
NTFRS members attended, isolated the power and extinguished the remaining fire.
District Officer Anthony Blakeley said, "In this instance, the smoke alarm activated and sent an automatic alert, while the occupants also contacted Triple Zero. It's a great example of systems working as they should.
"This is a timely reminder for all Territorians and business owners to ensure smoke alarms are installed and in working order.
"They can mean the difference between a minor incident and a significant emergency."
