Students from Calvary Christian College are doing their part to make sure cats and dogs at Townsville City Council's Animal Care and Adoption Centre have a happy Christmas.
The grade seven, eight and nine students have been working hard this term to create handmade toys to keep the animals at the centre entertained.
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said it was a very kind gesture for the animals waiting to find their families.
"We have plenty of cats and dogs here who will enjoy having some new toys to play with, but what makes this even more special is the fact that these were handmade with love," Cr Greaney said.
"This will give the animals something fun and stimulating to play with over the Christmas break while they wait to meet their forever families."
Calvary Christian College teacher Zach Cesnik said students had been extremely excited to make the toys.
"They have created some short tug of war toys for the dogs and some mouse-shaped fabric with some catnip inside for the cats with the help of our fantastic teacher Melissa Mammarella. Students brought in some old T shirts to recycle into these toys," Mr Cesnik said.
"We definitely wanted to give back in some way to the centre for all the work they put into trying to help these animals reset and be rehomed after the events that brought them there."
Anyone wanting to adopt a new pet can visit the Animal Care and Adoption Centre from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday or 9.30am to 2pm Saturday.
