Today, thousands of students across Western Australia are expected to lace up their sneakers and hit the pavement for this year's Walk Safely to School Day.
Now in its 27th year, the annual event highlights the many benefits of walking to school, from improving children's physical and mental health, to encouraging road safety awareness, reducing traffic congestion and supporting a cleaner environment.
The day also encourages primary school-aged children to build walking into their daily routine by walking to and from school, not just today, but every day.
For many families, the walk to school is also a chance to spend quality time together, connect with their local community and help children build confidence and safe behaviours around roads and crossings.
Whether it's a short stroll around the corner or a longer walk with friends, every step taken today is a step towards healthier, happier communities.

As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"Walk Safely to School Day is a wonderful opportunity for Western Australian families to start the day in a positive, active way, while also supporting safer school communities.
"I encourage families across Western Australia to get involved in whatever way works for them, whether that's walking the whole way, parking a short distance from school and walking the rest together, or even cycling or scooting.
"There are lots of ways to be active before the first bell even rings."
