Successful contractor announced for Kingaroy Hospital redevelopment project

Construction is just around the corner for the $73.9 million Kingaroy Hospital redevelopment project with the successful construction tender contractor awarded.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this milestone brings the South Burnett community one step closer to their brand new larger and better hospital.

"My Government are delivering on our promises," The Premier said.

"We promised to build a bigger hospital in Kingaroy and that's exactly what we're doing. I can't wait to see construction begin.

"We are building bigger and better roads, schools and hospitals all over Queensland."

Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services Steven Miles said the redevelopment of the Kingaroy Hospital was a major investment by the Palaszczuk Government.

"As a Government we are committed to putting Queensland jobs first and this project will support approximately 72 full time equivalent jobs during construction and use as many local sub-contractors where possible," Mr Miles said.

"Over the next two years, the Kingaroy and wider South Burnett community will see the construction of a new hospital.

"We're providing more and better health services in Kingaroy after the region was neglected by the previous government."

Darling Downs Health Board Chair Mr Mike Horan AM thanked the Kingaroy Hospital staff for their input into making sure the facility would continue to meet the needs of the ever-growing community.

"Our staff, both at the Kingaroy Hospital and working in our infrastructure division, are to be commended for their work so far on the project and ensuring that the early construction works have had little bearing on people accessing services at the hospital," Mr Horan said.

"We will continue to provide updates as the project meets its milestones," he said.

"This is a community facility and we want to make sure it will continue to meet the growing needs of the South Burnett into the future."

From a large open market tender process, seven potential construction companies were short-listed to with Broad Construction Services chosen to build the new hospital.

Broad Construction Services will be setting up a local satellite office for ease of consultation throughout the build.

Construction is set to commence in July 2019 with the project expected to be finalised in 2021.
