Sullivan Meets with Emirati NSA Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met on Friday, December 15, 2023 with National Security Advisor Tahnoun bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Sullivan congratulated the UAE for organizing a successful COP28 in Dubai. They also discussed a number of bilateral and regional matters, including ongoing efforts to bring about a just and durable peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Mr. Sullivan thanked the UAE and the personal leadership of President Mohamed bin Zayed for his significant contributions to the ongoing humanitarian response in Gaza, including establishment of a field hospital for Palestinian civilians. They discussed the importance of de-escalating the conflict in Sudan and countering threats from the Houthis to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Finally, they discussed areas of deepening bilateral cooperation to include future investments in advanced technology, security and defense coordination, regional stability and integration, and shared efforts to promote an affirmative agenda for the people of the Middle East region.
