Summer Reading Club celebrates great outdoors

Hey kids! The sun's out, so it's time find a seat under a big shady tree and dive into a new book or get creatively crafting.

Throughout January, Wellington Shire Council libraries are helping pre-schoolers and primary schoolers make the most of the warm weather, with their annual Summer Reading Club, which takes on the theme The Great Outdoors.

Park events will be held at Sale Botanic Gardens (13 January), Yarram Memorial Park (14 January) and Apex Park in Stratford (15 January). They will include stories about the great outdoors and nature-themed crafts, such as eco-flowerpot making and kite building.

Craft sessions will be held at Maffra Library (14 & 21 January) and Stratford Library (18 & 21 January) and will offer a variety of scratch art (black paper that can be scratched to reveal colours underneath) and sand art.

Bookings are a must and places are limited, so grab a ticket at wellington.vic.gov.au/library.

Summer Reading Club take-home packs are available at all libraries throughout the summer, and children can tackle the Summer Reading Club Book Challenge, within these packs, to go in the draw for our summer holiday prizes.

And, as always, we have brand-new junior reading titles available for borrowing and tabletop activities in the children's library spaces throughout the holidays.
