Northern Territory Police have issued a summons to a 57-year-old male in relation to allegedly transporting alcohol into an Alcohol Protected Area on Saturday 2 November, 2019.
At about 5:30pm, members of the Alcohol Policing Unit located a quantity of alcohol in a taxi while conducting random alcohol screening operations in a Katherine community. Members seized three bottles of spirits and a four pack of pre-mixed alcoholic drinks, being approximately 83 standard drinks.
The 57-year-old taxi driver has been summons to appear in Katherine Local Court for allegedly bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area. The vehicle was also seized.
A 37-year-old male passenger made admissions to purchasing the alcohol. He was issued an infringement for bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.
"Alcohol is a driver of a significant amount of crime and harm in the Northern Territory. Police are committed to identifying those people who seek to profit from the secondary supply of alcohol" said Superintendent Brendan Muldoon from the Alcohol Policing Unit.
