Sunshine court upholds EPA litter fine

A Cairnlea woman has taken an EPA litter fine to court, only to wind up paying the fine plus legal costs.

The case followed a report from a member of the public that they had seen the woman drop a plastic or glass bottle from a car in Station Rd, Deer Park.

The witness told EPA the driver was alone in the vehicle, there were no other vehicles nearby and the bottle was thrown from the driver's window and appeared to bounce on the ground.

EPA issued the woman with an infringement notice, and she exercised her right to have the matter heard in court.

The woman pleaded guilty in the Sunshine Magistrate's Court and was fined $330.00 and ordered to pay legal costs of $138.59.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The offence took place on 10 July 2020, near the intersection of Station Rd and Furlong Rd.
