Rockhampton Regional Council's annual Hands of Support event today welcomed hundreds of community members with the sole aim of lifting, sustaining and supporting them in their time of need.

Deputy Mayor and Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said this year's event created a welcoming and supportive environment for those in need, providing food hampers, clothing, linen, shoes, and access to over 30 community organisations.

"Just like in previous years, this event was about giving people a hand up, a chance to connect with vital services and feel supported," Cr Wickerson said.

"This event was previously known as Homeless Connect but we are very aware in today's tough times that we needed to be more inclusive of those who may not be homeless but are struggling to make ends meet.

"We're incredibly grateful to every community member who attended, and to the many organisations who showed up to offer their time, resources, and compassion.

"This event is truly invaluable, a one-stop hub for essential items and services, and a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together to support those doing it tough."

Some of the services and items available this year included free meals, haircuts, eye appointments, flu shots, food hampers and essentials, clothing and linen.

"For many, this may be their only opportunity to check in on their health, feel confident in their appearance, or stock their pantry and cupboards with much-needed basics," Cr Wickerson said.

Rockhampton Regional Council would like to acknowledge and thank the community members who donated clothing, linen and food items for this year's event.

"It really is a team effort to pull this event together, and we are grateful to our community who donated," Cr Wickerson said.

"I also want to thank our Council officers who organised this event as well as the community organisations and local businesses who put their hand up to support the event.

"I believe this event makes a true difference in our community and I am grateful to see it continue each year."
