Supporting jobs in Tasmania's sport and recreation sector

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to address the challenges faced by COVID-19 and providing support to those who need it.

Last month we announced a $2 million support package to assist the State's sport and recreation sector to keep Tasmanians employed and today I was delighted to announce some of the successful applicants of tranche one of that package.

Of the $570,000 worth of approved payments set to be distributed, the following organisations will receive;

  • $150,000 to Basketball Tasmania to support 12 jobs
  • $150,000 to Football Federation Tasmania to support 15 jobs
  • $98,190 to Swimming Tasmania in support of four jobs
  • $114,000 to Surf Lifesaving Tasmania, supporting six jobs
  • $150,000 to Netball Tasmania to support 17 jobs, and further support for jobs in Triathlon Tasmania and Motorcycling Tasmania

The key objective of this grants program is to keep Tasmanians in work through this pandemic so that our grassroots sports that are so deeply embedded in our culture can survive and resume once is safe to do so.

I congratulate these wonderful organisations on their successful applications and I expect to announce further support for others like them in coming days.
