Supporting sustainable agriculture on Eyre Peninsula

The Hon David Littleproud MP
Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management

The Australian Government is investing $1 million to support sustainable agriculture awareness and practices on the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.

Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the Regenerative Agriculture Project would be delivered by the newly established Agriculture Innovation and Research EP (AIR EP) group.

“AIR EP will be responsible for delivering components of this regenerative agriculture project, as part of funding received by the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board through the Australian Government’s Regional Land Partnerships Program,” Minister Littleproud said.

“Eyre Peninsula is one of South Australia’s key farming regions, with a high proportion of the population employed in agriculture.

“Delivery of this important project through the AIR EP group puts locals at the very heart of its work and drives genuine outcomes in partnership with the farming community

“Supporting farmers with increased awareness and adoption of sustainable land management practices delivers a multitude of positive outcomes including increased productivity, improved soil condition and enhanced biodiversity.

“The project addresses outcomes under the National Landcare Program, including Regional Land Partnerships, which aim to protect and conserve Australia’s water, soil, plants, animals and ecosystems, as well as support the productive and sustainable use of these valuable resources.

“This funding represents another National Landcare Program investment in farmers on the Eyre Peninsula, with a $3.29 million Smart Farming Partnerships project announced earlier this year helping them develop more resilient and profitable farming systems in an increasingly variable climate.”

“The Australian Government is investing more than $1 billion for phase two of the National Landcare Program, being delivered from July 2017 to June 2023.”
