Supporting women in building industry

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to creating a more inclusive Tasmania that empowers and enables women to fully participate in our economic, social, political and community life.

This is why I was very pleased to attend the HIA Building Women Luncheon at the Country Club Tasmania today to highlight the role of women in the building industry.

While building has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, the HIA Building Women program recognises that women can play a much larger role and have a greater contribution.

The Building Women program focuses on supporting women in building and creating better opportunities to enter the industry.

It also supports the needs and recognises the contributions of women already involved in the building industry.

The HIA is to be applauded for the development of such a program supporting a more diverse workforce and also for its support to the Tasmanian housing sector in general.
