Surfer injured in Avoca

A man has been injured while surfing at Avoca Beach today after being hit by what he described as a 2m shark, NSW Police say.

The man was surfing with three others 20m-40m offshore when it jumped out of the water and hit him in the right shoulder about 4pm (Monday 13 November 2017).

The 25-year-old man was taken to Gosford Hospital by his friends after he sustained scratches and a puncture wound. His injuries are not considered serious.

Avoca Beach and North Avoca will be closed for 24 hours.
