Suspected Blue Green Algae found at Walkers Lake

Community members are being asked to take caution if they are visiting Walkers Lake, with a suspected case of Blue Green Algae found at the lake this morning.

Test results will return next week to confirm whether or not the lake has been affected, but in the meantime visitors to the lake are being urged to not take part in swimming, boating or fishing on the lake, as well as keeping their pets away from the lake.

Kara Kara Ward Councillor, Tony Driscoll said, "It's disappointing, particularly for it to happen so close to Easter, but unfortunately we have no control over it given it's caused by weather and other natural factors."

"We've already put signs up at the entrance and boat ramp of Walkers Lake to alert users at the reserve of potential Blue Green Algae, and we'll continue to update the community once the tests come back to confirm the issue or otherwise."
