Suspicious fire in Coogee

Police are appealing for public assistance as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding a suspicious fire at a unit complex in Coogee this morning, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 1am (Wednesday 26 September 2018), emergency services were called to Mount Street, near Alison Road, after reports of a fire in an underground carpark of a residential building.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command and Fire & Rescue NSW attended and found several vehicles well alight in the basement carpark.

Numerous residents were evacuated from the building, including nearby homes, as firefighters contained and extinguished the blaze.

There were no reports of injury. Significant damage was sustained to the basement carpark.

A crime scene has been established, and the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.

As inquiries continue, anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or who has dash cam or cctv vision, is urged to come forward.
