Sustainable Living Homes Open Doors

Sustainable-houses.jpg

Sustainable House Day is coming, and this year the Mornington Peninsula has three local homes inviting the public in. We think that's worth getting excited about!

Whether you're passionate about sustainable living or curious about what a passive house feels like to live in, this is your excuse to explore some truly inspiring homes in Bittern, Safety Beach and Rye. There is a fourth sustainable home in Red Hill that you can tour online from the comfort of your couch too.

Acting Mayor Councillor Paul Pingiaro said: "If you've ever watched Grand Designs and thought "I wonder what it's really like..." you're in luck! The famous Cave House in Rye (S12 E3) is one of this year's open homes, so come and see it for yourself!

"To those generously opening their homes to the public, thank you."

Building from scratch or retrofitting your house?

While you're out exploring, make sure you pay a visit to the Eco Living Display Centre at the Briars in Mount Martha. This is a retrofitted display home that showcases lots of sustainability innovations. Accredited home energy assessor and director of Green Moves, Danielle King will be at the centre on the day and can show you how to conduct your own home energy audit using the home energy kits and FLIR cameras (available at our libraries).

Toot toot! There's a bonus reason for visiting the Eco Centre

There'll be a range of electric vehicles on display with their owners on hand for a chat. The perfect chance to ask all the questions you've been wondering about!
