A powerful new exhibition has arrived at Bayside City Council's Corporate Centre foyer, inviting visitors to see beauty through a different lens. The #OldIsBeautiful Photographic Art Exhibition by award winning photographer Suzanne Phoenix is now on display, celebrating the beauty and wisdom that comes with age.
Presented as part of the national #OldIsBeautiful campaign, the exhibition features a series of striking black and white portraits of local residents. Each image is accompanied by personal reflections, offering an intimate glimpse into the lives and wisdom of older community members.
The exhibition launched during Bayside Seniors Festival, with a heartwarming event attended by Mayor Cr Hanna El Mouallem, Dr Catherine Barrett (Director of Celebrate Ageing), photographer Suzanne Phoenix and, most importantly, the portrait subjects themselves, joined by their families. Guests took time to reflect on each piece, share stories and celebrate each other.
Far more than a collection of photographs, this exhibition is a call to challenge ageist stereotypes and reimagine what it means to grow older. It confronts the harmful belief that beauty fades with time and instead offers a more inclusive and empowering narrative, one that honours the grace, strength and authenticity that comes with age.
Visitors are encouraged to pause, reflect and reimagine what it means to grow older. The exhibition reminds us all that beauty has no age limit.
The #OldisBeautiful project is an initiative developed by Dr Catherine Barrett of Celebrate Ageing Ltd, a charity combatting ageism and building respect for older people.
Proudly hosted by Bayside City Council and Celebrating Ageing Ltd, this moving display is open now for you to enjoy at Bayside City Council Corporate Centre foyer, between 8.30 and 5pm, Monday to Friday until 14 November.
