Swan Hill Rural City Council is proud to have been recognised as a finalist in the prestigious Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards - a testament to the passion, creativity and collaboration across our vibrant tourism community.

Last night, the Victoria Tourism Industry Council hosted their annual Victorian Top Tourism Awards ceremony, with Warrnambool (population 5,000+), Mount Beauty (population 1,500-5,000) and Trentham (population <1,500) taking home the top honours for 2025.

Mayor Cr Stuart King said while Swan Hill did not place this year, it was an honour to stand alongside Victoria's top destinations.

"We are humbled that Swan Hill was recognised as a finalist among such outstanding tourism towns.

"This acknowledgment reflects dedication, innovation, and strong community spirit - from our incredible local businesses and tourism operators to event organisers, volunteers, and the many individuals who work tirelessly to create unforgettable experiences for our visitors," Cr King said.

Cr King extended his sincere congratulations to the winners of the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards in the 5,000+ population category, commending Warrnambool (First Place), Ballarat (Second Place), Echuca (Third Place), and the other distinguished towns recognised for their excellence in regional tourism.

"Each of these towns showcases the best of what rural and regional Victoria has to offer, and we're thrilled to see them recognised," he said.

Despite not placing this year, Cr King emphasised that Swan Hill remains one of Victoria's premier tourist destinations - offering a rich blend of history, culture, natural beauty and genuine hospitality.

"With attractions like the iconic Pioneer Settlement and captivating Laser Light Spectacular, to the PS Pyap River cruise, thriving arts and cultural attractions, local produce, and major events - Swan Hill continues to be a destination of choice for visitors seeking connection, culture and discovery. Swan Hill continues to captivate visitors all year round - "No Matter the Season"," he said.

"We're proud of how far we've come, but we're not standing still. We'll continue to build on our strengths, invest in our visitor economy, and find new ways to create memorable, inclusive and sustainable experiences that reflect the heart and soul of our region," he added.

Cr King said that over recent years, Council had proudly delivered a range of projects to enhance the visitor experience, with ongoing riverfront masterplan projects, including the adventure playground and skate park, the new River Viewing Platform and Boardwalk, and all-weather pathways from Spoons to the wetlands. the all-abilities currently underway. Looking ahead, Swan Hill's tourism offering will be further strengthened by the Ten Steps Replacement Project and boat mooring platform, the Tourism and Cultural Hub and a contemporary Art Gallery.

"However, I believe our greatest asset is our community - warm, welcoming and genuine. Visitors don't just come here for the attractions or the serenity of secluded camping areas - they come for the connection, and that's something you can't replicate. I often get feedback from visitors just how welcome they feel here," he said.

Cr King also thanked the many individuals and organisations who helped Swan Hill reach finalist status, including, local business and tourism operators, Traditional Owners, Visit Victoria, Murray Regional Tourism and many more.

"One the biggest shout outs, however, must go to Swan Hill Incorporated" Cr King said.

"The vision of some of our prominent businesspeople in the past to set up this organisation, funded by a special rate on Swan Hill business ratepayers, has been, and continues to be, a game changer in the promotion of Swan Hill. I sincerely thank the Swan Hill Inc Board, and their Business Development Manager Steve Colombo for their tireless efforts in promoting Swan Hill.

"Whilst we didn't take out the top spot, we remain incredibly proud of what we've achieved - and more excited than ever for what's to come," he concluded.
