Celebrate National Science Week on Wednesday, 13 August at 7:00pm with a special event promoting sustainable fishing and healthy waterways at the Swan Hill Library.

Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan invites the community to an evening of practical advice to reduce their environmental impact.

"We will hear from special guest Lubin Pfeiffer, a content creator living in the Barossa Valley, South Australia who fishes for all manner of species fresh and salt using a wide variety of techniques. Lubin has written extensively for Australian fishing magazines for over a decade and has also worked for many TV fishing shows including being a cohost on New Zealand's BigAngryFish. He is currently the host of The Full Scale Fishing Adventures which sees Lubin travelling across Australia full-time in search of amazing fishing experiences."

"While he's best known for consistently capturing large Murray cod, Lubin has also represented Australia at World and Commonwealth fly fishing championships six times, winning team and individual gold medals. It's a fantastic opportunity to hear from someone who is passionate about both fishing and caring for our waterways," Ms Cullinan said.

The evening will also feature OzFish Project Manager, Michelle Slater, who will share practical ways the community can get involved in protecting and restoring their waterways.

"OzFish is Australia's fishing conservation charity, dedicated to helping recreational fishers take a hands-on role in habitat restoration."

"With support from volunteers across the country, OzFish works to improve the health of our rivers, lakes and estuaries, creating better habitat for fish and healthier waterways for everyone. Michelle will have great insight for those with a passion for fishing or the environment wanting to get involved." Ms Cullinan said

Ms Cullinan said the event had been made possible thanks to a combination of national and local support.

"We were fortunate to receive a National Science Week grant to support this event, presented with the support of the Inspiring Victoria program."

"We're also incredibly grateful to our local sponsors, Swan Hill Fishing & Shooting, Blue Sky Swan Hill, Holts, and Hunter Marine, generous contributions have allowed us to make this a free and accessible event for our community," Ms Cullinan said.
