Swift police charge group after Batman Park brawl

Police have charged six people after an alleged affray in Batman Park, Melbourne CBD, on Friday night.

Investigators have been told a group of people were walking through the park when they were approached by a second group about 10pm.

A male from the second group grabbed a backpack off one of the other men.

When the man attempted to retrieve his backpack he was allegedly assaulted and a brawl broke out between the groups.

Two men who were passing by attempted to break up the affray and were also assaulted.

Police were called and discovered five injured males, two of which were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers located a group of six males and one female nearby a short time later.

One male was taken to hospital under police guard while the others were arrested.

An 18-year-old man from Rockbank has been charged with affray and bail offences and remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old female from Fitzroy has been charged with affray and bail offences and remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A 17-year-old male from Tullamarine has been charged with affray and bail offences.

Two 15-year-old males from Southbank and Heidelberg Heights have been charged with affray and bailed to face a childrens court at a later date.

A 17-year-old female from Rockbank was interviewed and has been released pending further enquiries.

A 16-year old male from Albion was charged with affray and possess cocaine and bailed to a face a children's court at a later date.
