Swimming with Excellence is excited to announce the appointment of Butterfly champion Samantha Purvis.
Samantha (Sam) will join the SWE Swim School on 27th of August 2018, and according to owner Susan Mothershaw her credentials match swimmingly with the school’s excellence in swimming philosophy.
"Samantha’s career in Aquatics spans over 35 years, and she’s a double Olympic finalist plus Commonwealth medallist in Butterfly, so we’re basically doing backflips off the high-board, we’re so excited," she said.
"Sam’s journey has been incredible. Her junior years saw her place 5th in the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic 200 metre butterfly final. She was also a finalist at the Barcelona Olympics."
Samantha was born in the North East of England, lived in New Zealand until the age of 9 before travelling with her parents to Australia. Here she won the All Juniors in W.A. while being involved in Learn to Swim lessons.
Returning to England, at the tender age of 13 she made the Great Britain youth squad, the senior team at 14 holding the National Junior records in 100 and 200 metre Butterfly plus 100 and 200 metre backstroke in 1982.
IN 1986 and 1990 she became a Commonwealth Games Medallist and European Champion Medallist in 1989.
She held the British record for 200 metre Butterfly for a staggering two decades.
"Sam will fit like a glove in the Swimming with Excellence program" Susan said.
"As well as being a champion, she also has extensive coaching experience, and the Swimming with Excellence team cannot wait to have her on board."
