Swimmer hit by boat at Randwick

A 24-year-old man has sustained serious injuries after being hit by a boat while swimming in Sydney's south-east this afternoon.

About 1pm today (Saturday 21 December 2019), emergency services were called to Yarra Bay Road, Phillip Bay following reports a swimmer had suffered injuries after being hit by a leisure boat.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for lacerations to his abdomen and arm.

He was taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, together with the Marine Area Command, established a crime scene and seized the boat for examination.

The 24-year old male skipper of the vessel was breath tested and returned a negative result. He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. He is currently assisting police with enquiries.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
