Airservices Australia has proudly partnered with Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport for an exciting, behind-the-scenes TV look at our Sydney Aerodrome Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS).
In late 2022, Airservices granted ITV Studios Australia unprecedented filming access at our Sydney ARFFS.
Now, ARFFS is prominently featured in new, exhilarating, fly-on-the-wall 10-part SBS series, Inside Sydney Airport, which debuts on SBS on Thursday 1 June at 7.30pm. The entire series will also be available on SBS On Demand. Watch the trailer here.
The gripping doco follows our Sydney ARFFS' daily operations and highlights our aviation rescue fire fighters' outstanding hard work, commitment and tenacity as first responders at 27 of Australia's busiest airports, including Sydney Airport.
An episode focused on our ARFFS' fire training will go to air (current schedule) on Thursday June 22 at 7.30pm.
Next up, another episode heavily featuring ARFFS sees our intrepid aviation rescue fire fighters respond to a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) airport incident. It airs on Thursday August 3 at 7.30pm (current schedule).
Airservices Australia ARFFS Chief Fire Officer Rob Purcell said the service was thrilled to be featured in Inside Sydney Airport.
"This inaugural filming opportunity, and unique partnership with Sydney Airport, demonstrates the vital role Airservices' ARFFS performs in safeguarding both the community and industry," Rob said.
"We are an important cog in Sydney Airport's network and in keeping all their customers safe and moving on their journeys."
ARFFS is the only national fire service in the country - a rapid intervention, first-response service which engages within minutes of any incident, whether it be a first-aid call, fire alarm or a response to an aircraft in trouble.
