A Sydney man has been sentenced to a nine-month recognisance order by Penrith Local Court today (23 October, 2026) for an online threat targeted at a foreign embassy in Australia.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in June, 2026, after receiving a report from a foreign law enforcement partner of an online threat to harm a foreign embassy located in Australia.
The man, 47, was arrested at a Colyton home on 9 July, 2026, and later pled guilty to using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm, contrary to section 474.15(2) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
He was convicted and sentenced today (23 October, 2026) to a nine-month recognisance order.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
