Tackling waste and recycling for a cleaner future

How can we achieve a waste free City of Whittlesea? That's what residents are being asked to consider as the City of Whittlesea develop a new waste and resource recovery strategy.

Based on feedback received in November last year, the draft strategy identifies actions and targets to reduce the amount of waste the municipality generates and increase the recovery of resources that are currently being sent to landfill.

Among the proposed actions are:

  • Changing the bin collection schedule to include weekly food and garden waste and fortnightly garbage bin collection
  • Pop up recycling stations
  • A home collection service for recycled clothing, small household items and e-waste
  • Introducing a resource recovery centre in the municipality.

Council's goal is to reduce waste generation by 20 per cent by 2030 and halve the amount of food and garden waste going to landfill.

Have your say on the draft strategy and proposed actions.
