A Tamworth man, 29, is scheduled to appear next year in Tamworth Local Court, where he will be charged with allegedly making online threats to an Australian high-office holder.
The AFP last week issued the man with a Court Attendance Notice as part of an investigation into the alleged harassment of a high-office holder.
An AFP National Security Investigation (NSI) team executed a search warrant at a Tamworth home on 15 November, 2025, and seized a gel blaster rifle and ammunition.
The man was issued with a notice to appear in Tamworth Local Court on 20 January, 2026.
The man will face the following charges:
- Four counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 474.17 of the Criminal Code (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment;
- One count of unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm, contrary to section 7(1) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW). This offence carries a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment;
- One count of not keep firearm safely - prohibited firearm, contrary to section 39(1)(a) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW). This offence carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment; and
- One count of acquire ammunition for firearm without licence or permit, contrary to section 65(2) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW). This offence carries a maximum penalty of a $5785 fine.
The AFP set up NSI teams in September, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including the targeting of federal parliamentarians.
