Tandem speeders caught

Two young men will face court after an alleged street race in the north eastern suburbs last night.

About 9.15am Sunday 3 December police were conducting speed detection duties on North East Road when they clocked a Mitsubishi sedan and a Holden sedan travelling at 167km/h in the 60km/h zone.

Police activated their emergency lights to pull the cars over, and they both stopped. Police spoke to the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 20-year-old Dernancourt man, and driver of the Holden, an 18-year-old Findon man, checks revealed both men were only on their P licences.

Both drivers returned negative breath tests, however they were both were reported for driving at an extreme speed.

Both men lost their licences on the spot for 12 months and their cars were towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days. The men will appear in Court at a later date.
