Nationals MPs Tanya Thompson and Alison Penfold have welcomed the official opening of Taree's Iron Arena, describing it as a game-changer for the community.
Mrs Thompson, the Member for Myall Lakes, said "This is fantastic news for Taree and the broader region and it has certainly been long-awaited."
"I want to acknowledge the advocacy of former Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead, and the former Federal Member for Lyne, the Hon Dr David Gillespie, who both worked tirelessly to secure the funding necessary to get this project off the ground. It's wonderful to see that hard work now realised.
"This $12.9 million development is a major investment in the sporting and economic future of our region."
Mrs Thompson said the Iron Arena will attract high-profile sporting events at the local, regional, state and national levels including basketball, futsal, volleyball and indoor hockey bringing athletes, supporters and visitors into our community.
"Beyond sport, the venue will also serve as an excellent space for trade shows, exhibitions, and concerts, further boosting local activity and opportunity.
"I'd like to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to making this incredible project a reality," Mrs Thompson said.
Federal Nationals' Member for Lyne, Alison Penfold, said the Iron Arena will be a huge asset for the region.
"Iron Arena will be transformative for the region's economy," Ms Penfold said.
"This new regional facility will not only deliver significant sporting and social advantages, but also broader economic benefits to the Manning Valley."
"I'd like to congratulate all involved in delivering this incredible piece of community sporting infrastructure. There were many hardworking hands that helped secure this facility, and Iron Arena certainly wouldn't be here without their vision, perseverance and advocacy."
