A man has been charged with alleged stealing offences following an investigation into a fatal shooting earlier this year under Task Force Magnus, as CCTV is released as part of ongoing inquiries.
Task Force Magnus was established in July as a policing strategy to target and disrupt gun-related and violent crime, and to investigate links between recent organised criminal activity in Sydney.
About 4pm on Monday 22 May 2023, emergency services were called to Hertfordshire Street in Elizabeth Hills, following reports of a shooting.
On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command located a 24-year-old man suffering several gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.
He has since been identified as Marvin Oraiha.
A short time later, emergency services were called to Cave Close in Green Valley and Lewis Street in Bonnyrigg Heights following reports of two car fires.
Crime scenes were established and forensically examined at all three locations, which are believed to be linked.
Liverpool detectives – with assistance from the Criminal Groups Squad and Homicide Squad – commenced inquiries before State Crime Command's Task Force Magnus took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Hackenberg.
To date, five people have been charged and remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, about 6am yesterday (Thursday 12 October 2023), strike force officers executed a search warrant in Marsden Park where they arrested a 28-year-old man.
During a search of the address, police located and seized two mobile phones which will undergo further forensic examination.
The man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was charged with six offences, including two counts of accessory before the fact to destroy/damage property intend criminal activity of group, two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal and three counts of recklessly deal with proceeds of crime >$5000.
He was refused bail and appeared in Mt Druitt Local Court yesterday (Thursday 12 October 2023).
Police will allege in court the man was involved in stealing, coordinating and destroying two cars used in the fatal shooting of Marvin Oraiha.
As the investigation continues, police have released CCTV of a black Toyota Kluger which was seen driving past Marvin Oraiha's house in the hours before the murder.
Strike force detectives are appealing for information to anyone who may have information about the whereabouts or occupants of the car, as they may be able to assist with further inquiries.
