Police have charged two people after Task Force Magnus detectives intercepted an allegedly stolen car in Sydney's south-west.
About 10.40am yesterday (Thursday 7 December 2023), officers attached to Task Force Magnus were conducting proactive patrols in Ashcroft when they spotted an allegedly stolen Mazda sedan.
A passenger inside the Mazda fled into a nearby apartment block when he noticed police. The driver – a 43-year-old man – was arrested at the scene.
Following further inquiries, about 1pm the same day, officers attended an address on Chrysanthemum Avenue in Lurnea where they attempted to locate the passenger; however, it will be alleged the man fled from police again.
After a short foot pursuit, the 33-year-old was arrested a short time later on Graham Avenue.
About 4pm, detectives executed a search warrant in Ashcroft where they located and seized a number of items stolen from the car – including a bowling hat with sentimental value to the victim.
The two men were taken to Liverpool Police Station where the younger man was charged with enter inclosed land not presc premises without lawful excuse, carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and an outstanding warrant.
The driver was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
They were both refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 8 December 2023).
