Taskforce Falcon Charges Man in Marvin Oraiha Kidnapping

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged a man over the alleged kidnapping of murder victim Marvin Oraiha in Sydney's west.

About 4pm on Monday 22 May 2023, emergency services were called to Hertfordshire Street in Elizabeth Hills, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command located a 24-year-old man suffering several gunshot wounds.

Despite the efforts of police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene.

He has since been identified as Marvin Oraiha.

Liverpool detectives – with assistance from the Homicide Squad – commenced inquiries before State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Hackenburg.

Strike Force Hackenburg was previously overseen by Taskforce Magnus and now Taskforce Falcon.

Investigations identified that before Mr Oraiha was fatally shot, he was kidnapped by an Organised Criminal Network (OCN) months earlier on Wednesday 31 March 2026.

It will be alleged that Mr Oraiha was detained overnight at a unit in Belfield, during which time demands for payment of a ransom were made, and images showing him with significant head injuries were sent to his family.

About 6.20am yesterday (Wednesday 20 May 2026), strike force detectives arrested a 27-year-old in Dawes Point.

During a search of the man's car, police located and seized $31,700 in cash.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The man was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Local Court 7 today (Thursday 21 May 2026).
