Costa Rica's new Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Arnoldo André Tinoco, today presented his credentials to OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.
Secretary General Ramdin said that the strength of the Central American country's democratic institutions serves as an example for the region. "Costa Rica has a longstanding relationship with the Inter-American system and the OAS. I would like to highlight the values Costa Rica represents in the areas of democracy and human rights. It is a country without an army and is home to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights," added the OAS Secretary General.
Ambassador Tinoco, for his part, said that the OAS is one of the most important international organizations to which Costa Rica belongs. "Costa Rica bases its international security on international treaties and collective security systems, both regional and universal. The regional system is based on Inter-American treaties," added Ambassador Tinoco.
Ambassador Tinoco is a lawyer, diplomat, and academic. He served as his country's Minister of Foreign Affairs from May 2022 to May 2026.
