Tasman Highway Crash at Cranbrook: Single Vehicle

Police are investigating a single vehicle crash involving a car towing a caravan on the Cygnet River Bridge, near Cranbrook about 12 noon today (10 February).

Initial investigations suggest the car lost control causing the caravan to collide with a guard rail, detach from the vehicle and break apart on impact.

Thankfully no-one was injured in the crash.

Police are reminding motorists to check their vehicles before towing caravans, trailers, or boats, particularly during busy travel periods.

Key safety tips include:

• Ensure your towing setup is suitable for your vehicle's towing capacity.

• Distribute weight evenly inside the caravan or trailer to maintain stability.

• Check brakes, lights, couplings, safety chains, and tyre pressures before setting off.

• Drive to the conditions.

• Allow extra stopping distance, as towing requires more space to brake safely.
