Tasmania leading charge at Land Forces 2022

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries

The Defence Tasmania delegation at the Land Forces expo has already attracted significant interest from decision makers and buyers from across the international defence sector on the first day of the event in Brisbane.

Land Forces 2022 is the largest international industry showcase of land-based military equipment, technology and services within the Asia-Pacific region. This year there are eight businesses exhibiting as part of the Tasmanian delegation.

The Defence Tasmania stand has proven immensely busy, with the participating Tasmanian businesses reporting strong engagement with their current and potential customers at the opening day of the event on Tuesday.

Today, we also had the honour of hosting the Defence Tasmania networking breakfast event for more than 30 guests, which brought together Tasmanian businesses with major buyers from within the Australian and international defence industries.

It was great to facilitate some of Tasmania's defence industry suppliers to get together with key decision makers from the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Navy, Serco, Collins Aerospace and the Defence Export Office among others.

It is important that our leading suppliers to the defence sector have strong working relationships and can support industry networking for the shared benefit of the Tasmanian manufacturing sector.

Industry trade shows like this are an important business development opportunity to build awareness of the skills, capabilities and products that businesses can provide, while facilitating valuable industry networking.

It is clear that Tasmania is producing niche products and providing services that are highly valued by the defence industry.

In many sectors Tasmania is recognised as leading the charge to provide innovative solutions to the defence strategy of tomorrow.
