There is nothing more important to the State's economy than making sure Tasmanians can access the training they need to get a job.
That is why the Tasmanian Liberal Government is driving generational investments to ensure we have the skills and training needed for current and future demand.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said the recent 2021 results coming out of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research demonstrated this investment is paying dividends.
"These stats show that once again Tasmania is leading the way – topping the nation for completion and recording strong results in some of our most crucial sectors," Minister Ellis said.
Electrotechnology and telecommunications trades had an outstanding 75 per cent completion rate, compared with a national rate of 60.4 percent.
For construction trades, Tasmania recorded a 72.6 percent completion rate - compared with 52.1 percent nationally.
"The number of apprentices and trainees in-training has also seen remarkable growth - up 39 per cent over 5 years, and a massive 71 per cent increase in apprenticeship starts."
Liberal Member for Franklin, Dean Young, said given these remarkable outcomes, it was fitting that today also marked the start of National Skills Week 2022.
"This week gives us the chance to recognise the valuable and rewarding careers that vocational educational and training leads to - be it on the tools in traditional trades or the many non-traditional options that VET now supports," Mr Young said.
"There are now more than 10,000 Tasmanians getting stuck into training - so while we have been putting in the dollars, Tasmanians have been responding by putting in the hard work and taking their opportunities.
"This is on the back of our record investment across training and workforce development, including our $114 million plan for TasTAFE."
This year, National Skills Week will see the kick-off of the highly anticipated WorldSkills 2022 regional competition series starting in Launceston this Wednesday.
The TasTAFE Apprenticeship Information Night is also being held online on Wednesday and will provide school and college students and their parents or guardians valuable insights into the career pathways VET can provide.
