On Saturday, 8 October 2016, Tasmania Police will undertake a planned training exercise alongside Spirit of Tasmania’s ship, Tasmania Police say.
Members from Marine and Rescue Services, Special Response and Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Group will participate in the Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) exercise.
Designed to practice vessel to vessel manoeuvres, the RHIB will meet Spirit of Tasmania at sea and follow through to dock in Devonport.
The training exercise does not require any involvement of the ship crew, or any deviation of the vessel’s direction or speed.
Tasmania Police members will not be boarding the ship.
Passengers travelling on Spirit of Tasmania will be advised this is a training exercise and there is no cause for concern.
