Tasmania ready for work

Today’s Australian Bureau of Statistics data confirms the continued momentum of Tasmania’s economy with a surge in job vacancies over the August 2018 quarter.

Job vacancies in the August 2018 quarter grew by 25 per cent, the highest growth rate in the nation and more than three times the national average.

Over the past year job vacancies grew by 20 per cent, outstripping the national average.

Pleasingly, this growth was led by Tasmania’s private sector, which reported a 33 per cent increase in vacancies for the quarter - more than four times the national rate of growth.

Also released today, figures by SEEK Insights & Resources also confirmed that the State’s businesses are continuing to hire, with the number of SEEK online job advertisements for Tasmania increasing by 16.7 per cent in August 2018 compared to a year ago – higher than annual growth in any other state or territory.

SEEK noted that job ads growth was strong nationally in the Healthcare and Medical sector, with the increase in job ads for this sector highest in Tasmania, which saw 30 per cent annual growth in August 2018.
