Tasmanian trade opportunities in United States set to soar

A tender has been released for an open and competitive process to appoint a Tasmanian Trade Advocate in the United States of America delivering on a key action of the Tasmanian Liberal Government's Interim Trade Action Plan.

The US is one of Tasmania's oldest and most valued international partners and as our fourth largest export market is worth over $220 million and is a key destination for 20 per cent of our total agricultural and seafood exports.

The successful Trade Advocate will play a pivotal role in supporting Tasmanian business and industry continue to capture opportunities in an increasingly complex global trading environment and to grow exports to $15 billion by 2050.

We recognise the importance of the US to the Tasmanian economy in delivering jobs across key industry sectors, which is why it was highlighted in the Tasmanian Trade Strategy and the Tasmanian Defence Industry Strategy 2023.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting Tasmanian businesses export our world class products and services, and provided an additional $2.65 million in the 2020-21 Budget to facilitate further trade opportunities for our export sector.

The tender process is now open on the www.tenders.tas.gov.au website and will close on 21 December 2020.
