Tasmania's Investment In Trade Paying Dividends

Tasmanian Government

Tasmania's trade performance remains outstanding.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said in 2023–24 our combined goods and services trade reached $6.16 billion.

"That's the second highest on record and up 5.2 per cent on the previous year, helping keep our economy strong and support Tasmanian jobs," Minister Barnett said.

"In the last financial year, we supported 77 businesses through the Accelerating Trade Grant Program to take part in trade shows, international trade missions and marketing campaigns.

"Those businesses are already estimating over $34 million in new trade from those activities, delivering an incredible return of 54:1 to the Tasmanian economy."

The Tasmanian Government's new Inbound Visitation Program is bringing international buyers and influencers to our doorstep.

"We've already hosted 10 delegations, including Savour Tasmania and a Seafood Buyer Visit in May 2025, welcoming buyers from Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and Hong Kong.

"Our Tasmanian Trade Advocates within the International Business Development Network delivered 378 services to 152 businesses, helping secure $10.72 million in new contracts and sales agreements.

"Together, we are creating real trade opportunities, ongoing commercial discussions, and international exposure for Tasmanian businesses.

"We're working together with industry to bring the world to Tasmania and supporting exporters on the ground works, delivering on our plan to keep Tasmania moving forward."

All 20 of the Tasmanian Trade Action Plan actions have been delivered, generating over $50 million in new sales and outcomes.

"This year we will deliver $2.6 million in trade initiatives, including our International Business Development Network, industry-led trade activities, and the Accelerating Trade Grant Program," Minister Barnett said.

The Trade Strategy 2030 and Beyond will be released next year, building an even stronger economy for all Tasmanians.
