Teachers and students rally to stop tafe cuts

A Stop TAFE cuts rallywill be held TODAY, Friday 15th February 2019 at 12 noon outside the office of the Federal Member for Banks and the State Member for East Hills, 22 Revesby Place Revesby.

TAFE teachers, support staff, students and local community members will rally to demand that the Liberal Government stop cuts to TAFE student's education. The rally will call on all governments, state and federal, to guaranteed funding for our TAFE students.

The upcoming state and federal elections are critical to the future of TAFE students' opportunity to gain access to skills and education to secure employment.

Funding vocational education across Australia has dropped and has led to dramatic increases in student fees and debt. Courses have been cut, TAFE colleges closed and dodgy private training has increased.

At the local Padstow College the impact of the State and Federal cuts to TAFE has seen the Commercial Cookery courses cut, no Information Technology classes and the automotive workshop closed.

The Liberal Governments policy to allow private for-profit training providers to rip off tax payer funding must stop. The NSW Teachers Federation will continue to campaign for guaranteed funding for TAFE.
