A teenage boy has been arrested as an investigation continues into an incident at Kempsey, where an officer was allegedly assaulted and three police vehicles were damaged.
About 4am on Saturday 21 June 2025, police were patrolling the Pacific Highway near Kempsey when they attempted to stop a utility that had been reported stolen.
When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
Officers deployed road spikes to stop the vehicle; however, it continued driving and the pursuit was terminated after police lost sight of the vehicle.
A short time later, the utility drove past Kempsey Police Station and a headrest was thrown from the utility, causing minor damage to a police vehicle.
When an officer inspected the damage, and second headrest was thrown at the officer, striking them in the abdomen. The officer was not injured.
Officers continued to patrol the area and stopped in West Kempsey where they were approached by the utility and rocks were thrown at the police vehicle.
When police attempted to pursue the utility, it turned around and allegedly drove at speed toward the officer's vehicle, resulting in a collision.
A large rock was thrown at the police vehicle again, smashing the front windscreen and rendering it inoperable. No officers were injured.
A short time later, rocks and a headrest were thrown from the utility at another police vehicle in West Kempsey.
Officers pursued the utility; however, terminated the pursuit when they lost sight of it.
About 5.45am, officers recovered the stolen utility on Jack Bond Crescent, West Kempsey.
The vehicle was seized to undergo forensic examination, and officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District commenced an investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home in West Kempsey earlier today (Friday 27 June 2025).
During the search warrant, police allegedly located and seized several items of interest.
A short time later, police arrested a 16-year-old boy at another location in South Kempsey.
He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he is assisting police.
