Teen Charged After Long Pursuit Across Melbourne

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenager following an extended follow across several suburbs of Melbourne.

The 16-year-old from the greater Cardinia area, has been charged with a raft of offences including:

  • dangerous driving whilst pursued by police
  • reckless conduct endangering life/serious injury (x2)
  • theft of motor vehicle
  • fail to stop on police direction
  • theft (x2) relating to allegedly stolen registration plates
  • unlicensed driving
  • handle stolen goods
  • deal property suspected to be proceeds of crime
  • possess controlled weapon

The charges follow a protracted incident overnight after a vehicle was spotted by a Dog Squad unit in Sutherland Road, Dandenong with alleged stolen plates just after 12.30am.

Police responded and called in the Air Wing as the vehicle travelled from Noble Park through several suburbs along Nepean Highway towards the CBD.

The Mitsubishi Lancer was successfully stop sticked by a Prahran unit before the vehicle entered the Burnley Tunnel.

The vehicle is alleged to have been travelling erratically, and at times - contraflow to traffic - and through multiple red traffic lights.

Police pursued the vehicle along the Monash Freeway before it came to a stop on McGregor Road in Pakenham with three of the four tyres deflated and on rims.

The Critical Incident Response Team moved in and arrested the boy about 3.50am.

The boy will appear before a children's court today where police will seek his remand.

The vehicle is alleged to have been stolen from outside a gym in Moorabbin on 28 September.
