Teen charged after man injured in Haymarket

A public appeal has led to an arrest after a man was injured at Haymarket last weekend.

About 9.25am on Sunday 3 February 2019, a 28-year-old man was walking through a pedestrian tunnel attached to Central Railway Station at Haymarket, when he was approached by an unknown male.

Police have been told the pair had a verbal altercation, before the unknown male, armed with a knife, slashed the 28-year-old in the face and left the scene on a bicycle.

The injured man suffered facial lacerations and was treated at the scene before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command launched an investigation and released CCTV images of a male they believed would be able to assist with their inquiries.

Following inquiries, a 17-year-old male was arrested in Surry Hills last night (Tuesday 5 February 2019).

He was taken to Surry Hills Police station where he was charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, use offensive implement with intent to commit indictable offence and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at a court today (Wednesday 6 February 2019).
