A 13-year-old boy is due in court after being arrested in Merrylands this morning while allegedly driving a stolen car carrying jerry cans filled with petrol.
About 1.50am (Saturday 6 September 2025), police were called to a home on Myall Street, Merrylands, following reports a person was behaving in a suspicious manner outside the property.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command arrived to find a car – which had been reported stolen – parked outside the home.
Police spoke to the alleged driver – a 13-year-old boy – before searching the car and seizing two filled jerry cans and several lighters.
All items were seized for forensic examination and the teen was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.
He has now been charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Saturday 6 September 2025).
