Teen Charged in Lismore Retail Worker Assault

A teenage boy has been charged with allegedly assaulting a retail worker in the states far north.

About 12.20pm on Sunday 17 May 2026, emergency services responded to reports of an alleged assault at a supermarket on Simeoni Drive, Goonellabah, approximately 3km east of Lismore.

Officers from Richmond Police District were informed that a 55-year-old male staff member challenged four teenage boys for allegedly shoplifting when he was struck in the face by one of the boys with a bottle before they ran from the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the staff member at the scene before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with serious facial injuries.

Shortly before midday today (Friday 29 May 2026), a 16-year-old boy attended Lismore Police Station where he was charged with wound retail worker reckless as to causing worker actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Friday 26 June 2026.

Investigations are ongoing.
