Teen Charged in Orange Car Thefts

A teenage boy has been charged following alleged vehicle thefts in the state's central west last month.

Officers attached to Central West Police District commenced an investigation on Friday 17 April 2026, after a Nissan SUV was allegedly stolen from an address on Murray Avenue, Orange, between 4.30am and 6.30am the same day.

The vehicle was recovered on Bathurst Road the following day (Saturday 18 April 2026).

About 9am Tuesday 12 May 2026, a Mazda sedan was reported stolen from an address on Boolaroo Place, Orange, following a break and enter.

Police allege the vehicle stopped at a fuel station on Molong Road, Orange, about 3am on Wednesday 13 May 2026, with a teenage boy seen filling the vehicle with fuel before allegedly leaving without paying.

About 11.30pm on Friday 15 May 2026, police attended a home in Orange and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

He was taken to Orange Police station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

The teen was refused bail and faced a children's court on Saturday 16 May 2026.

Following further inquiries, officers attached to Central West Police District attended an Orange address about 9.35am on Sunday 17 May 2026, where they arrested the same 16-year-old boy.

He was taken to Orange Police Station, where he was charged with commit s 154A offence and disseminate (post and boast).

The teen was refused bail and faced a children's court yesterday (Monday 18 May 2026) where he was granted conditional bail to reappear at a children's court on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

The boy's arrest follows the arrests of three boys - aged 17, 15 and 12 - on Thursday 23 April 2026 – following a string of alleged aggravated break and enters and car thefts in Orange during April.
